Our Evolution

In 1987, Postpartum Support International (PSI) was founded in Santa Barbara, California, with a simple but powerful belief: no one should have to navigate the emotional changes of pregnancy and postpartum alone.

That belief took root early in Arizona, where one of the first PSI chapters began. What started as a small, dedicated effort grew into a trusted network of volunteers, advocates, and providers committed to supporting perinatal individuals and their families.

Over time, that network became something more, not just a chapter, but a connected, statewide community grounded in collaboration, compassion, and shared purpose.

In 2026, that evolution became the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance of Arizona (PMHAAZ).

PMHAAZ reflects who we are today: a statewide alliance reaching every county and tribal nation, working to ensure perinatal mental health support is accessible, visible, and deeply felt.

Our roots are grounded in PSI.
Our future is built here, together.

A Message from Our Leadership Team

New Look, Same Heart: A Letter to Our Community

For years, we’ve walked alongside you as the Arizona Chapter of Postpartum Support International. Today, we are so excited to officially welcome you to our next chapter as the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance of Arizona (PMHAAZ).

While our name and look have changed, our heartbeat remains strong. This transition to an independent nonprofit allows us to deepen our roots right here at home—focusing specifically on the unique needs of Arizona’s families, expanding our rural outreach, and strengthening the healthcare systems that support us all.

Whether you are a parent, someone navigating infertility or perinatal loss, or a professional looking for support or a professional dedicated to maternal health, we want you to know: We are still here for you. We are the same team of advocates, professionals, and volunteers you’ve come to trust, now with even more room to grow and serve our community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together as PMHAAZ.

With gratitude,

The PMHAAZ Executive Leadership Team
